Services: Identity; printed collateral; squarespace site
The client — Brooklynite brides-to-be (my wife and I!) wanted wedding collateral that complimented the event space: a venue in the heart of the Catskills and Hudson Valley of upstate New York.
Megan and I needed collateral that could be affordably produced and mailed. The typical high-end wedding stationery go-to's — letterpress, embossing, highest quality cotton paper — wouldn't fly with our budget, but as a designer I wasn't willing to sacrifice quality. Our goal was to make something exciting to open that communicated the vibe of our wedding weekend. A casual, old school affair: nature, music, big shared meals and no wifi connection.
My 4-part process in action
After establishing these goals, we identified the location as our key competitive advantage.
Since this was a destination wedding, the invitations and website needed to share tons of information to help traveling guests. We also had family staying in assigned housing on the land (the ultimate seating chart challenge) that required an opt-in from each person. The venue’s website is difficult to navigate (hello, 1998) so we streamlined the RSVP and lodging process with our own wedding site supported by Square Space. Each family guest was then provided a unique url to book their stay.
Guests understood the booking process and were delighted by invitations! We got a MUCH higher response rate than a typical destination wedding. Using our downloads and site call-to-action (printable directions) everyone found the venue without access to GPS or cell service. Wow.
